Finding Flow: The Mental Key to Performing at Your Best

How to Funnel Your Mindset into the Zone

Hey TAH Titans,

Did you catch the February highlights yesterday? If not, here’s a link to them!

Week Theme:

Mastering the Basics to Unlock the Zone

Weekly Info:

It doesn’t take much.

February is a short month, but so much happens during it!

From state wrestling to win-or-go-home basketball, swim and dive meets, and everything in between, there’s one common thread among all of them:

A desire.

A desire to win. A desire to go another round. A desire to avoid the sorrow of defeat. A desire to just… flow.

That flow state seems almost mystical. When we find it, it's incredible, but the real challenge is getting there on command.

I dive into this topic in this week’s Deep Dive, check it out here!

Exclusive Trick: Funnel the Flow

Some of the greatest psychologists agree that the flow state comes from trusting instinct, not overthinking, just doing, and ultimately, “flowing.”

That’s why we’re using the ultimate funnel to channel that flow state!

Exclusive Action Tools:

  1. Broad Start: Begin early and start broad. It’s what we do the night before, the morning of, the hours earlier, and the minutes prior that set the stage for flow.

  2. Idle the Flow: Is it easier to stare at an object forever or to blink, reset, and maintain focus? Flow works the same way. We must reset and refocus to stay locked in.

  3. Funnel Out: Flow doesn’t end when the game does. We reflect, recollect key moments, and take notes for improvement. Even if the next opportunity is a season away, we funnel our lessons into the future.

In Action:

In Remember the Titans, the team constantly flows.

From organizing as a unit, dancing into the game, idling through adversity, and adjusting to the competitive landscape, their funnel never stops.

Closing:

Flow doesn’t have to be a mystical, complex state that happens randomly.

Funnel in and out of it every day by focusing on the basic but overlooked concepts, and see just how much closer you get to finding flow today.

Funnel and Flow,

Gabe
