Visualize Your Way to Victory

The VHS Method for Mental Game Day Prep

Hey TAH Team,

What’s your vision for the near future? I can’t wait to share soon how our vision at TAH keeps becoming a reality!

Week Theme:

Mental Preparation for Game Day

Weekly Info:

If middle names could be verbs, mine would be prepare.

I’ve always been meticulous, scavenging every little detail for what could pop out… yet also trusting that we’ve done enough to give it our all when the time comes.

Preparation takes so many forms that we sometimes lose sight of the basics, especially when it comes to mental prep for game day.

That’s why I’m always on the lookout for tools to make mental preparation easier. Visualization is one of the most talked-about methods but least practiced.

Thankfully, Walker Ferguson and his app, Ascend, are changing that with AI-driven, personalized meditation and visualization scripts. I’ve been incredibly impressed by how it helps lock athletes in, and loved talking about it on the podcast this week! Find it here.

Additionally, this week’s Deep Dive brought us back to the fundamentals of mental preparation for game day.

Exclusive Trick: VHS

Remember the good ol’ days of Video Home Systems (VHS)? I caught the tail end of those days, but for us, VHS takes on a new meaning:

Visualize. Hone. Set.

Exclusive Action Tools:

  1. Visualize: Anywhere and everywhere, start creating your mental movie. The more times we play and rewind it, the better prepared we’ll be.

  2. Hone: Repetition is key. Each time we visualize, we hone our skills and accustom our minds to the plays, the movements, the crowd, whatever the situation demands. Hone it so well that you “break the film.”

  3. Set: With visualization and honing complete, we’re now setting ourselves up for success. By following this process, we lay the foundation for game-day excellence.

Closing:

Carrying this VHS approach wherever we go ensures we keep our vision for the future clear, embrace the middle name Prepare, and set ourselves up for success, all by returning to the basics of mental game-day preparation.

VHS,

Gabe
