Mental Exercises For How to Handle High-Pressure Moments When Life Doesn’t Hit Pause
Hey TAH Titans,
This month, we’re doubling down on 1-on-1 coaching, and the momentum is building fast.
Happy Easter! We’re offering free first sessions for athletes who want to experience mental performance coaching through The Athletes Health™ and the Phronoic Gym™.
If you or someone you know could benefit, send them my way. No pressure to continue. No sales pitch. Just real coaching, real value, and a real step toward helping more athletes level up.
This “free first session” model is something I’ve studied from some of the best. Now I want to apply it in a way that spreads the message and impact of what we do.
Week Theme:
We Can’t Cram for This: Mental Performance in Sports vs. the Classroom
Weekly Info:
You ever hear about a tornado tearing through a town?
We get the headlines “Tornado strikes,” “Storm causes damage” but then come the stories beneath the surface.
The ones about people caught in it with no warning. The ones about lives changed, families shaken, loss that no one expected.
It reminded me of a recent experience in my own family, how something can hit without warning, and suddenly everything changes.
And yet… the game still goes on.
There’s no pause. No delay.
In sports, you’re still expected to perform, even if your world just shifted.
That’s the difference between school and athletics:
In the classroom, you can reschedule. You can ask for more time. You can explain. But in a game, when the whistle blows or the lights turn on, you either show up or you don’t.
There’s no cramming the night before. There’s just what you’ve prepared for and how steady your mind is when it matters most.
That’s why this week’s Deep Dive hits this topic head-on. How we can mentally prepare for the moments we can’t control, how it differentiates from the common school performance, and still step up when it counts.
Exclusive Exercise: Twister Touchpoints
If a tornado’s on the way, we know the drill:
Get to the basement.
Find a room without windows.
Cover your head.
Keep your phone on for updates.
Let’s take that same emergency response system and apply it to our mental game so we can stay ready when pressure hits.
Exclusive Action Tools:
Go to the Routine:
This is your “basement.” The place you always return to when things get chaotic. It locks you in and brings stability.
Block Out the Noise:
Just like you’d find a room without windows, you remove distractions. Focus on what’s inside, not what’s flying around outside.
Protect Yourself:
Set your mindset early so nothing can fall on your head mid-game and knock you off. You’re steady before the storm starts.
Stay Connected:
Keep your lifelines close. Whether it’s a teammate, coach, or your breath, stay tuned in to what keeps you grounded and encouraged.
In Action:
I was recently talking to a baseball player who said, "When I’m at the plate and mess up a few swings, it feels like a tornado in my head."
The what-ifs start. The "I suck" thoughts creep in. The spiral begins.
So, we broke it down.
We walked through their pre-bat routine, starting from the dugout. We cleaned up the mental clutter, calmed the echo chamber, and created a steady space for performance.
They realized they were doing everything right. That even if something does fall on their head (figuratively), they have a system, and people, to help them reset and respond.
Closing:
Whether it’s a literal tornado or a personal storm, the show doesn’t stop.
The game doesn’t wait.
There’s no teacher to delay the test.
You either commit to the game and give everything you’ve got… or let the moment pass you by.
Let’s be prepared for anything. Let’s build athletes who don’t just survive the storm, but perform through it.
Stay safe, stay ready,
Gabe
P.S. Seriously, reply to this email if you’re interested in a 1-on-1, 30-minute online session with me through TAH. Whether you’re a parent, coach, or athlete, I’d love to work with you or someone you know. Let’s set it up for success.
P.P.S. Happy Easter!
