Build Back Stronger: Mental Training After a Break
The ABC Method for Athletes Returning to Competition
Hey TAH Titans,
Did you enjoy the break this past week? If you’re an athletic family in Iowa, I assume you did. This email is all about what to do next.
Week Theme:
How To Break Back Mentally Stronger From Break!
Check out the podcast on it here.
Weekly Info:
Let’s walk through a few simple but powerful examples…
Concrete. A bunch of tiny, broken rock pieces, compressed and unified into one strong foundation.
Craftsmanship. A tree, cut down, shaped, sanded, and turned into something elegant like a table or cabinet.
Technology. A break from usage to recharge to 100%, ready to last the entire journey ahead.
Performance. A break to recharge both physically and mentally, so you can return stronger and more prepared to face the demands of high-level performance.
See the pattern? The break is part of the rebuild. But now comes the key question…
How do we create a wave of momentum to come back stronger after the break?
Some athletes are already fired up and ready. Others feel slow to move, maybe even wishing they were still on the beach. But one thing is for sure…
That first hot, intense practice? It’s coming fast, and it will level the field for everyone.
Exclusive Exercise: Build Back Before!
Just like a backbone holds us upright, this method helps build your mental backbone before it’s tested. Use the ABC Method:
Anticipate. What’s the hardest challenge you’ll face your first day (or days) back? Identify it now.
Build. Train the mental (and physical) muscles you’ll need to face it. If you’ve done this before, you know what’s coming, so prepare for it.
Conquer. You’ll already be armed and ready for what others are just beginning to face. That’s a winning edge.
In Action:
Every athlete we’ve worked with uses this. The best breaks are not just restful, they’re strategic. Recharge, yes, but build your comeback plan while you're refreshed so you’re not scrambling when the heat turns up.
Closing:
Breaks are meant to restore. But they’re also a hidden opportunity to prepare. Use the ABC method of Build Back Before so when the return hits hard, you hit back harder.
In battle,
Gabe
P.S. Two emails in a row?! Thanks for all the support. Let’s keep growing together and building elite performance from the inside out.
