The Mental Game Behind Stepping Into Your Next Role
Hey TAH Titans,
To prep for April, we’re also prepping for the showers and puddles that will come our way. But before that, if you want to check out what we did with Shoot360 Cedar Rapids this past week, click here!
Week Theme:
Stepping Into Your Next Big Role
Weekly Info:
April is almost here, and if you’re stepping over a puddle, are you taking a small step or a big one?
Let me explain…
I was walking the other day and stumbled upon a puddle.
Then another… and another. Each one was longer and deeper than the last.
I kept trying harder and harder to jump over each one. I wasn’t about to land in that mud-infested puddle of muck.
But here’s the thing… I had no choice but to jump.
We’ll all face moments where we either turn around or jump up to that next level and step into a bigger role.
We cover this in this week’s Deep Dive!
Exclusive Exercise: Puddle Jumper
We take big steps with big confidence because we don’t want to land in that puddle.
That puddle is where all the mishaps, failures, and challenges happen.
So whether the next step is forced upon us because it’s time to level up or because we’re ready to go after it, we need to jump big enough to clear the puddle beneath us!
Exclusive Action Tools:
Rule 1: Look Where You’re Jumping: Just like with hurdles, see your plant foot before you hit the hurdle. You need to know where you’re landing before you leap.
Rule 2: Contingency Plan: Don’t just react after landing in the puddle. Plan ahead. If you do land in the puddle, you’ll have a backup plan ready.
Rule 3: JUMP! Give it your all. Load up, focus, and go for it.
In Action:
A baseball team I worked with was determined to live up to their name.
They had big shoes to fill and a lot of puddles to jump over to reach their goals.
But we identified the jump spots, made sure they had contingency plans in place, and when it was time, they took the leap.
They put in the work, practiced mental exercises on top of physical training, and delivered when it mattered most.
Closing:
There will always be puddles to jump over, and depending on the level we’re stepping into, we need to take bigger jumps.
The good news? We’ve got the rules and tools to follow along the way.
